You've got mail, psych, no you don't

Over the years I have moved enough times to remember to change my address both temporarily at the post office and permanently with individual snail mail providers. Of course I wouldn't know how much of my mail doesn't get forwarded after the mail redirection ends because I'm not usually in contact with whomever has moved in afterward. However, I have been on the receiving end of these lost letters filling up my mail box from previous tenants who have neglected to properly deal with correspondence.

For the most part I have switched to paperless billing for my services so I'm not really expecting too much in the mail but when it's stuffed full of white envelopes I get a little excited. I'm not sure what I'm hoping to find but they are usually addressed to one or more of four old tenants. There are also pieces of mail for the other two apartments in my building which makes me a temporary mail delivery person as I complete the job the real one didn't bother doing.

The mail boxes are clearly marked with a 1, 2, or a 3 so I don't really understand the confusion. What's worse is that the other tenants don't bother passing along my misplaced pieces of mail, which can be a little frustrating when I get doubled up invoices or past due / final notice mailings. Clearly I need to put my name on the mail box to make it easier for the mail delivery person. But will that stop them from depositing mail belonging to people who don't live here anymore? Probably not. For now the mail box will be a constant surprise, keeping me on my toes and hopeful that the envelopes contained therein are actually for me, not!
