Ooops, I somehow went ahead in time for a different school posting but this one is from elementary school. I've been watching daytime TV while I apply for jobs so this either inspired me or derailed me.
I have always had an affinity for television, music and media in general. Nowadays I enjoy getting away from these distractions completely and getting immersed in a book or enveloped by the outdoors. When you are a kid, that's not all that interesting. In fact, television can make you forget about anything and everything.
I would watch TV before school and it was cool because my elementary school was right across the street so I didn't have far to go. My mother would give me 5 minute warnings for me to get my shoes on and walk across the street to school before the opening bell rang. As any child doing something they enjoyed more than school, let's face it – anything is more fun than school, I would put off going until the last warning was issued. Except for this one time.
Like a slap across the face, I heard the opening bell ring across the street and I jumped up in panic to get to school. My mother sternly informed me that I was NOT to run across the street even if it meant being late. After that I would never wait until the last minute. Even to this day I am always early for everything, expecting a bell to ring out if I don't. However, I still let the television take me away from anything and everything but only once the day is done and all is right in my world.
